Crossword Puzzle
The crossword puzzle consists of 13 questions from the subtopic 1.2 Number System Representation. The crossword puzzle acts as a platform to break students' familiarity with the usual format of questions and the usual wording of questions in this subtopic. By twisting the wording and question format, students were able to self-evaluate their understanding of the subtopic. The crossword puzzle was implemented prior to UPS 1, post Pre-UPS 3 to ensure students have acquired all necessary theoretical knowledge regarding the subtopic and further strengthen them.
Froggy Jumps
A fun challenge with 15 questions that students have to answer correctly. The fun idea of this game is that for each correct answer, the frog jumps one step forward in an attempt to reach the final destination. Students are given 3 lives, which means that they get to make 3 mistakes before the game is over for them. A score is calculated at the end based on the questions answered correctly. This was also the activity unanimously selected by students out of the 15 activities available on Educaplay.
The Froggy Jumps challenge was implemented twice: at the mid of Chapter 6 and at the end of Chapter 6. The SDLC chapter is a rather long, wordy chapter in which almost all the information is new knowledge for students. In my observation, students tend to get overwhelmed at the mid of learning the chapter causing learning fatigue and amotivation. Therefore, an interactive activity in the mid of the chapter not only reinforces students' learning but also acts as an understanding checkpoint.
Matching Pair
In this activity, students are required to match the pair of terms correctly. The Matching Pair pairs are statements from Chapter 2.2, 2.3 and 2.5 involving network architecture, classifications of network, and Introduction to the Internet. A total of 15 pairs are to be matched by the students that would require well-versed knowledge in differentiating each aspect. The activity is to be implemented in Week 10, after students have learnt subtopics 2.1 - 2.4. With the Matching Pair activity, users can reinforce their understanding by linking related terms, and concepts. These activities cater to diverse learning styles, fostering comprehension and retention.
Alphabet Game
During Week 15, following the completion of Chapters 1–3, students participate in an engaging activity known as the Alphabet Game. This activity involves students guessing the answers to 15 questions, which are drawn from the topics of Introduction to Programming, Problem Solving, and Designing a Solution. By relying on the first letter of each answer, students reinforce their understanding of key terms and concepts while also strengthening their ability to differentiate between various aspects of the material. This interactive approach caters to diverse learning styles, promoting deeper comprehension and retention of the subject matter.
