The ACA held the 50th anniversary ACA Gala Passing the Torch: Remembering Our History Reimagining the Future on December 9th, 2022. Deferred for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this in-person celebratory event was much longed for by the community which the ACA has been dedicated to serving for the past 50 years. The event featured a keynote speech “The Future of Civil Rights: Asian Americans After COVID-19”. The Anniversary Gala is ACA’s signature annual gathering to celebrate the year’s accomplishments and recharge for future success. On 9/17/2022, the Association of Chinese Americans has hosted a health gardening fair. TVC has successfully run a fund raise by selling home made deserts, like muffins, cupcakes, cookies, egg tarts, moon cake, mochi, and kaofu.

We have successfully held the 5K fundraising event and raised almost $2000 for our future projects. Around 100 people from Northville, Novi, Ann Arbor and Troy attended this event; we also had friends who supported us from New York and California. Thank you for all participants, volunteers, and donators.  We have triumphantly organized such a large event and brought the Chinese community closer as one!!

On Sunday, June 19th, the TVC held an orientation meeting at the Chinese Community Center. The orientation was a great opportunity for the TVC members to get to know each other, TVC’s history, and the work plan for the year. In addition to this, the orientation also included a potluck, scavenger hunt, and other team bonding games.  To Learn more about the orientation

On Tuesday May 24, Comerica, GM, ACA and Pontiac School District volunteers were gathering together at Alcott Elementary of Pontiac. Goodie bags and books were delivered to the students. Volunteers went to classrooms to read to the students. As representative of ACA TVC, Ingrid Huang participated in this event.

On 5/22/2022, TVC members staged booths of Rice Dumpling (Zongzi) DIY, Chinese tea culture exhibition and tasting, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese naming service, Chopsticks games, Piano Performance, MC. TVC also invited a Lion Dance, Chinese Yo-Yo, Taichi, and Tang Dynasty dance performances. Radio station WDET interviewed all TVC student Volunteers (Ingrid Huang, Nicole Zhong, Alex Ye, Hana Yang, Caitlyn Li, Yi-An Liao, Brooke Li and Raina Li). Thank you to all the volunteers.

To celebrate the organization’s 50th Anniversary and in commemoration of Vincent Chin’s 40th Anniversary, the Association of Chinese Americans, Inc. (ACA) is launching a unique art contest, “Justice For All”. The contest is open to all Michigan students from kindergarten through grade 12th. Rooted in the value of respect and justice for all humanity, ACA aims to provide students from all cultural backgrounds a platform to express themselves and speak out in support of inclusion and diversity.
