2019 Healthy Gardening Fair Book Drive and Fundraiser Event

On August 24, 2019, the Book Drive and Fundraiser Event was held at the ACA’s annual Healthy Gardening fair with a goal to increase the library’s book collection to better service local readers as well as donate English books to children in Detroit. Profits from the fundraiser would go towards purchasing a new computer to manage the library’s books. After promoting the event through the ACA communication channels, WeChat groups, and fundraising posters, the local Chinese community responded greatly to the library’s request. In total, the library received nearly five hundred Chinese books and hundreds of English books in donations from the book drive as well as from the months following the event.

ACA 47th Anniversary Gala

The 47th Anniversary Celebration Banquet of the Association of Chinese Association was successfully held in the evening of October 25th at Glen Oaks Country Club (30500 West Thirteen Mile Road, Farmington Hills). The evening included dinner, entertainment, networking, and an awards ceremony to honor outstanding partners, sponsors, and volunteers. This celebration banquet focused on:

• The important role that early Chinese immigrants played in the construction of the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.

• The recently signed Congressional Gold Medal Act honoring Chinese World War II Veterans.

• Paying tribute to Chinese veterans who served the United States during periods of war and peace.

The ACA would like to give thanks to all the ACA directors, employees, volunteers, and friends who have supported the community within the past year, especially those who came to the banquet to support. During the banquet, ACA Library teen volunteers Shanshan Ye, Dillan Lau, and Ivy Lam helped to greet people and put their coats away. They also helped to setup the exhibition booth and assisted those visiting the booth by answering questions.
