About the ACA
The Association of Chinese Americans, Inc. (ACA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1972. It is the founding chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), which currently has over 50 chapters and affiliates across the United States. ACA is dedicated to advancing the social, educational, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. Through its three service centers that operate in Wayne and Oakland counties, ACA plays a leading role in enriching the lives of Asian Pacific Americans in the Metro-Detroit region. In its 53 years of existence, ACA has strived to promote the general welfare of Chinese Americans and the Asian Pacific American community by supporting youth education, enhancing the lives of older adults and adults with disabilities, and reducing health disparities. Through its daily services, the organization directly reaches more than 10,000 people per year. We are dedicated to improving the lives of Asian Americans of all ages and backgrounds.
TVC's Mission
The mission of the ACA Teen Volunteer Council (TVC) is to empowering youth through community service by focusing on supporting disadvantaged communities, promoting Asian American heritage, leadership development, and community engagement & collaboration. We aim to inspire positive change, foster inclusivity, and develop young leaders who are passionate about creating a more connected and compassionate world. The TVC is an opportunity for students to develop valuable leadership skills while contributing to the Asian American Community. Student members range from grades 6-12.
A member must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships. TVC members are active, creative, passionate advocates of the ACA.
TVC's History
In 2019, several high school students founded the Teen Volunteer Committee, which was the first student-led youth volunteer group for ACA. In October 2021, we gained official recognition from the ACA Board as the Teen Volunteer Council, a change from our former Teen Volunteer Committee. This change results from ACA’s structure going forward. We will continue to coordinate closely with the ACA and its many events in the future.
