Glass
The international studio glass movement has been significantly influenced by developments in Czech glass art, particularly in cast glass sculpture during the mid-twentieth century. Pioneering Czech artists such as Stanislav Libenský helped establish cast glass as a medium that combined technical precision with sculptural clarity, influencing generations of artists worldwide. Contemporary Czech artist Petr Hora trained within this tradition, studying at the Applied College of Glass-making in Železný Brod and at the Glass-making School in Chlum u Třeboně before joining the Beránek glassworks in Skrdlovice. He rose to the position of director in 1987, and the political changes in Czechoslovakia during the early 1990s enabled him to establish an independent studio (Habatat Galleries).
Across his career, Hora’s work has evolved from austere, geometric forms to more complex sculptures that explore the interaction of light, surface, and space (Seven Bridges).
