It is divided into 2 groups:
* Dasyuridae (quolls, dunnarts, tasmanian devil, tasmanian tiger ),
* Myrmecobiidae (Numbats)
They lack a full marsupial pouch
They have a simple fold of skin surrounding the teats
They have a blade like incisors
Their upper molars are identified with large, sharp cusps.
