Abi Puput, my cooperating teacher at Al-Amjad Islamic school

Planning for Teaching

Abi Puput is the English teacher in Grade 7. He is also my cooperating teacher who serves me as a mentor and guide during the practicum. He plans his lessons, prepares teaching materials ahead of time, thinks of a motivational activities for the topic and students, and uses an appropriate assessment for the class.

Preparing Lessons and Materials

Preparing teaching plans and materials for my cooperating teacher, Abi Puput is not a problem. He always prepares and designs PowerPoint presentations, worksheets and activities by himself that would practice and engage the students' understanding and new knowledge. The best thing in Al-Amjad Islamic school is that the school provides all the teachers free reproduction such as papers and printing.

Teaching in Class

As Abi Puput teaches in the class, he starts his class as usual by greeting his students. Then he will state the objectives for the lesson so that the students can achieve their goals at the end of the lesson. After the class routine, he starts the lesson with some motivational activities to catch the students' attention. At the end of the lesson, he make sure that his students understand the lesson by giving them an assessment to ensure the students understanding and new knowledge.

Measurement and Evaluation

Abi Puput uses common evaluation techniques in a typical classroom including recitations and engaging collaboration which would serve as the formative assessment of the students. He also apply the philosophy of Edward Thorndike's Law of Exercise with the use of worksheets. These are quite usual for English Language Learning and it is proven that it is very effective in gauging the students' learning outcome and capabilities inside the classroom.
