During our menstrual years we have a 28-day (on average) hormonal cycle, therefore it makes sense that our training, nutrition, and lifestyle would change over the course of the month in harmony with this.
Think about our 24 hour cycle (the circadian rhythm) - our cortisol rises in the morning to help us wake up, and then our melatonin increases in the evening to help us go to sleep. It feels pretty terrible to work against these hormones, and can wreak havoc on our health if we work against it long term. Our female hormones are no different!
Have you ever felt great doing a high intensity workout one day, only for it to feel dreadful a week later?
Our body needs different types of exercise, food, and structure to the day depending on where we are in our cycle. Working in tune with our hormones can lead to much greater results whether that's weight loss, muscle gain, confidence, long-term health, mental wellbeing or a bit of everything. On the flip side, working against our hormones can often lead to the opposite of what we're trying to achieve. We could actually unknowingly sabotage our own fat loss and fitness results!
Menopause
Things can become really confusing as you enter perimenopause. What once worked, doesn't seem to anymore. You don't change anything within your routine but suddenly you feel fatigued, gain weight, anxious, and become burnt out.
Again, it's really important to harmonise with your body and its needs in order to look after your long-term wellbeing, alongside seeing the results you want.
This can be a wonderful time to work on really connecting with your body, and building healthy habits that make you feel good.
There's so much within your power to really support yourself during this time, and we can include them together in your programme to help you feel amazing.
