I first became interested in fitness and health at age 16 when I was diagnosed with my first autoimmune illness - type 1 diabetes. In the following 5 or so years, I was diagnosed with other autoimmune illness - fibromyalgia and ankylosing spondylitis, as well as PCOS.
I spent the majority of my teenage years and 20's fighting against chronic pain, fatigue, panic attacks, extreme blood sugars despite trying my best, and many other symptoms. Sometimes unable to get out of bed, and often unable to leave the house. During this time I qualified as a PT and trained as best I could - it was the only thing that stopped the panic attacks, and helped me manage my pain.
Across the years with trial and error, and devouring as much information as I could, I realised I was doing many things wrong - things that are unfortunately commonly done - and when I applied other approaches, things began to fall into place. That's why I'm so passionate about hormone and gut health, alongside the right movement.
I lost weight eating more than ever, reduced my fatigue to the best it's ever been, learnt how to read the subtle signs of an on-coming flare and change my routine to reduce it's intensity, stabilised my blood sugars hugely - my endocrinologist recently told me I have non-diabetic levels and hba1c! And greatly improved my mental health - after all, I believe physical and mental health are one in the same thing.
It's been a tough journey, but one that's led me to such a great place. I'm always learning more and more because I love it, and because it makes me a better coach. Fitness, nutrition, and all things wellbeing saved me, and I love being part of that process for others as well.
