In this workshop series, you will learn how to do research to better understand and draw insights from quantitative and qualitative data on an issue in the Asian American community. This course aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge to engage with scholarly literature effectively and gain a comprehensive understanding of topics relevant to their interests. Throughout this course, you will learn the process of conducting a systematic literature review and presenting your findings in the form of poster presentations. In doing the poster presentations, you will also practice public speaking skills in anticipation for the Q&A segment after the presentation.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Read and critically analyze research literature
Conduct a systematic literature review
Understand equitable research practices
Produce research poster presentations
Have an in-depth understanding of issues concerning their community
What is a Systematic Review?
“Systematic reviews gather ALL the relevant studies that have already been conducted on a specific clinical question. They evaluate the studies, select the best ones, and synthesize their findings. They're called "systematic" because they use pre-defined, rigorous, methodical, and clearly documented methods in each step of the research process. This reduces bias and ensures that the research is transparent so that readers can assess their quality.” [Source: MD Anderson Research Medical Library]
