There are two main ways to promote your pup on social media.
Anna’s Angels will make scheduled posts about your foster dog. There are often a number of dogs posted at once. We will use your best photos, so please take good ones and post in your foster chat!
You can make your own Facebook post. You won’t have to wait to do this and your pup will be the star of your post. This slide show will give tips how to do this.

The quality of the photo is directly related to how many people will see the dog via social media.
Promoting your foster pup is different than adoption counselling for the dog. The bio can be positive and highlight the pup’s best qualities. You can get into details about the pup’s challenges when you are talking to someone who has made the effort to potentially meet them by completing the application process.
Less is more - concise, point form is better than too much text.
Use strong adjectives that show the dog’s personality. eg. sweet, active, playful, calm, snuggly, quick learner, dog friendly, etc.
Make note of your dogs behaviours- strengths, challenges for the bio
See some examples of successful posts:
This pup was adopted within less than 24 hours of posting. This was just a personal post a foster put up for friends and family and not even shared to the bigger groups. Key takeaways:
He’s adorable- that always helps!
The photos show his personality - you can see him smiling
The background isn’t distracting and there is great lighting.
The videos show him playing with other dogs and give an idea of his personality and size.
The bio is light hearted. This dog was actually being rehomed as part of a sad story and was HW positive, but we saved those discussions for the adoption chat.
Not a ton of text so it is easy to read but there is a variety of great quality photos and videos.
The link to adopt is there!!!!!!!
This is a dog named Joanne that never had any apps in Texas but once she came to Canada and her foster told her story and shared a video, it was shared and she got adopted.
Sharing the best of your pup and showing their personality will get them adopted.
Notice again the adoption link is there to make it easy for people!
And there are lots of nice photos!
Wording to include:
“Dog’s Name” is fostered in “town/ province” and is available for meet and greets with approved Anna’s Angels adopters. To begin the application process or for more information visit: “Dog’s Petstablished Link”.
People are very interested in things like kid friendly, cat friendly, dog friendly and how they walk on a leash. If you know this, you can include in the bio.
Petstablished Link
You MUST include the link- people will keep scrolling if they have to look for a link. Make it easy for them.
How to find Dog’s link in PETSTABLISHED:
Head to the Anna’s Angels website
Find your dog’s profile
Copy the link in the address bar
Paste the link into all your posts
You can make posts on your own facebook page and local rehome pages
Anyone interested in the dog must go through Anna’s Angels
Post often
If you post often, it is more likely more people will see it.
Include the dog’s petstablished link every time!
Privacy Settings
Make sure your post is not set to ‘Private’ - it needs to be made ‘Public’ so it can be seen and shared by everyone.
Engage with the post
The more people commenting on a post (including you), the more often it will show up in people’s feeds.
Have friends and family comment on the post- ask questions, share their experiences with the dog, etc.
You can also post updates and photos/ videos in the comments of the post which will keep the post active.
One amazing foster posted a daily video/ story of her pup in the comments and the dog had multiple applications. It really makes a difference to keep the post in people’s feeds.
The more the post is shared, the greater the reach it will have!
Instead of saying “Please Share”, try things like, “Spread the word about my sweet foster pup….” etc.
If you can tag people, your post will be shared on their feed as well (make sure they are OK with you tagging them).
You can share your posts in other local adoption groups as well!
Anyone interested must go through Anna’s Angels
