What is management- https://k9turbotraining.com/what-is-management/
Mouthing is a natural dog behaviour — it’s how they explore and communicate with the world. That said, even though mouthing isn’t the same as biting, it can still cause pain or injury, especially when a dog is overstimulated or excited.
What You Shouldn't Do:
Don’t wave hands or fingers near their face or touch their face to initiate play
Don’t jerk your hands away quickly. They can see this as a game
Don’t yell, it may accidentally reinforce the behavior
Never punish your dog physically for mouthing, instead, guide them calmly toward more appropriate behaviors.
What You Can Do:
Pause and let things settle before redirecting
Gently show that toys are okay to mouth, but hands are not
Teach impulse control through relationship-based games (like It’s your Choice by Susan Garrett)
If your dog mouths during touch, work on slow, positive desensitization
Use positive reinforcement strategies
Seek support from a certified trainer if needed

Muzzle training is a fun way to build your relationship with your dog while keeping them and everyone around them safe.

NEVER leave your dog alone or unattended with a muzzle on!
What is Prey Drive?
Prey drive is a natural, instinctual behavior in dogs: the built-in urge to find, chase, and catch prey. It's often mistaken for aggression, but they’re not the same.
Prey drive is what makes many dogs love games like tug, fetch, or chasing food — all acceptable outlets for this instinct.
Signs of Prey Drive:
Fixated staring at potential prey (cats, birds, squirrels, rabbits, even small children)
Stalking or tracking behavior
Lunging, chasing, grabbing, or hovering
Tense body posture, stiff wagging tail, quickened movements
Why It Matters:
Dogs with high prey drive can often coexist safely with “prey-like” animals (like cats) with proper training, supervision, and management. Satisfying their prey drive in appropriate ways is important for their mental well-being.
Tips for Managing Prey Drive:
Work with a certified dog trainer
Teach appropriate behaviors around “prey” using positive reinforcement
Learn your dog’s body language and warning signs
Avoid aversive training methods
Provide safe outlets to fulfill hunting instincts through enrichment activities:
Examples of Safe, Fulfilling Activities:
Tug, Fetch, Flirt pole, Frisbee, Recall games, Dog sports, Scatter feeding, Hide and seek, Sniffy walks
