Introduction to Module 4: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) & Education
Module 4 serves as an overview about integrating the concept of sustainable development in the educational arena. In Module 4, learners will create content for one slide describing one approach to integrate the United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in education. Education about sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Goals can start in our homes, neighborhoods, health, technological, business, and educational communities. Dr. Tang points out that, "Education represents an essential strategy in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals" (United Nations Educational, Scientific, And Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 2017, p. 1).
Target 4.7, of the United Nations (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) states, "By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development (United Nations, 2015, p. 17). Education about the sustainable development goals is recognized as a needed activity, starting with our educational institutions (International Association of Universities, 2020; Ross & Fedorciow, 2018). In many professions education about a topic can be conveyed in short courses, continuing education units, and/or with in-service educational programs. In this module, you will describe one approach to integrate the UN SDGs in education.
At the end and completion of Module 4, learners will take and submit a 20 question open-book test, with a passing grade of 70% , for your certificate.
