Born in Oakland, California in 1950, Joanne Corso received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree form the California College of the Arts and Crafts in 1973.
Ms. Corso has been immersed in the arts all her life. She began painting at age 3 and since then has lived, breathed and studied a variety of mediums from oils, watercolors, graphic and ink, to technical animation and filmmaking.
Growing up in the Bay Area with a family of artists, Ms. Corso honed her skills as a portrait artist in San Francisco at the burgeoning Fisherman’s War street scene of the 1970’s.
Ms. Corso’s thematic material covers many subjects, but she is most well known for her evocative landscapes, painted plein air on the California Coast and in the mountains. Her paintings embody her philosophy of creating the least possible distance between the moment and its expression.
Ms. Corso has won awards for her drawing talents, been a featured artist in major gallery shows, and worked on a variety of acclaimed film and commercial productions. These include the anthropological film about the Mayan mythology of creation, ‘Popol Vuh’.
