(1) Slide Shows - Uses & Abuses

• Assignment - Presentation software provides the opportunity to display text and graphics in a slide show fashion.  After reading about the educational uses and abuses of presentation software and discussing these issues in class, summarize how presentations should be constructed and delivered to maximize learning and minimize abuse. 

(2) Adapting a Slide Show

• Assignment - Use an advanced search to locate and download one or more PowerPoint presentations or Google Slide Shows (to search for a public Google Slides presentation: enter

  • • • Filetype:  ppt or pptx for Powerpoint

• Include the URL of the location from which you obtained them and summarize the slide show and where in your curriculum you will use it. Make adaptations to the file and attach it.

• Assignment - Develop a slideshow, to teach a lesson in your subject area, keeping in mind the principles you have outlined above and be logically structured, instructionally sound, and, easy to navigate.  Your presentation should include numerous graphics and be at least 10 slides in length,   Present a portion of you slide show to your colleagues in a breakoutroom, and post both the slide show and a recording of your actual presentation. Remeber the following:

           • Navigate - in response to student needs, not in a rigid linar manner.

           • Design slides to support discussion, not to serve as a script.

           • Dialog - Ask questions frequently to encourage dialogue.

           • Visuals -  Use graphs, data, diagrams, photo to tell the story

           • Bulleted text -

           • Encourage peer discussion through brief partner or small-group activities.

           • Dynamics - Incorporate animations, movies, etc. as appropriate

           • Annotate slides in real time to respond to student ideas and comments.

(4) Make your presentations interactive

• Assignment - Use PearDeck or Nearpod to make your slide show interactive presentation.  You may covert a Google Slides slideshow such as this one on famous photographs into a  PearDeck or Nearpod show.

(5) Collaborative Presentations

• Assignment - Contribute to two (2) of the following collaborative online presentations, and post a copy of the slideshow, indicating your contributions.

(6) Concept Mapping

  • Assignment - Create a logical and graphic-enhanced  concept map related to the curriculum you teach using a collaborative concept mapping tool such as Coggle or Diagrams.net (examples).
