When God created the world, everything was perfect. But, it's not perfect anymore. What happened? What changed?
We read in Genesis that Adam and Eve were living in the Garden of Eden with God. They were taking care of everything In the garden and they had free will to make choices. When Adam and Eve were offered to eat from the tree that was off-limits, they had a choice. They could continue to love, honor, and trust God to show them what was right and good, or they could listen to Satan and eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They could disobey God and try to live without needing God to tell them what is good and evil.
God gave us the ability to make choices and He knew it would cause us to sin, but He loved us enough to save us. This came at a great cost. Jesus had to die and take our punishment even though he didn't deserve it.
So, why does God let bad things happen? It all comes down to sin. Sin brought brokenness into God's perfect creation and there are consequences to sin. Just like Adam and Eve had to experience the consequence of leaving God's perfect garden, we experience consequences of sin too. But there is good news. We don't have to go through hard/bad things alone. Our Savior is always with us.
Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
How did the perfect world change when Adam and Eve sinned?
In what ways do you choose your own way over God's way?
Read Romans 8:28. Why does Paul say there is hope for the future? Who is working all things together for good?
Pray and ask God to help you honor, love, and trust Him.
