Page Activities

  • Download the Reading and Study Digital Tool v 2 (link above). Go to page 47 and follow the detailed step-by-step directions on cretaing a Notebook as needed.

  1. Practice each of the OneNote Online features and add-on apps as provided below and in the step-by-step guide.

  2. After completing each of the OneNote Online features and add-on apps complete the Word doc you downloaded (see homepage for link if needed).

    • Complete the chart below by indicating which area of AT and UDL is supported by the skill area provided through the accessibilty feature of the app.

    • Please describe how one of the accessibility tools in Office 365 online support an area of AT.

    • Please identify one UDL Principle and Guideline that supports one of the accessibility tools in Office 365.

Insert (toolbar)

Symbol

  • Place the cursor over the area where you wish to insert the symbol

  • Click the "Symbol" icon

  • In the pop-up window, click on the desired symbol

Math (Office Add-in)

  • Type your equation or write it in ink

  • Select your equation

  • Tap the Math Icon

  • Select an available action

Pictures

  • Place the cursor over the area you wish the picture to be inserted

  • Click “Insert’” on the ribbon

  • Click on “Picture” icon. Select "From file" if you are adding a picture file you have in your computer

  • Select “ From Online” if you are adding a picture from the internet

  • A pop-up Bing search window will appear

  • Type the name of the name of desired image you want

  • In the search, click on the image(s) that you wish to insert

  • Click on “Insert"

EDIT ALT TEXT

  • CNTRL + Click (Mac), Right Click (Windows) on the image you wish to edit the Alt Text

  • In the pop up window type the alternative text for the picture

  • Click on “Ok"

Scan and Paste (Office Add-in)

  • Get free mobile applications from Google Play or App Store

  • Pair your phone with the following QR code (in the pop-up window) and add pictures to your document

  • Take photos

  • Click the "Refresh" icon

  • Double-click the image(s) you wish to insert

  • Click "Forget Me"

View (toolbar)

  • Click “View” on the ribbon

  • Click on the “Immersive Reader” icon

  • The Word Online Document page will reopen into a new window displaying just the text

  • The reader will start reading aloud

  • The entire page becomes a shade of gray

  • The word being read aloud is highlighted with a white square and the sentence line being read appears in dark black font

Text Preferences

  • Click “View” on the ribbon

  • Click on the “Immersive Reader” icon

  • Click on the “Text Preferences” icon

  • A new pop-up window will appear

Grammar Options

  • Click “View” on the ribbon

  • Click on the “Immersive Reader” icon

  • Click on the “Grammar Options” icon

  • A new pop-up window will appear with options for syllables and parts of speech

Reading Preferences

  • SYLLABLES

  • Turn "Syllables" by clicking in the slider

  • The words are separated into syllables

PARTS OF SPEECH

  • To turn on the parts of speech for nouns, verbs, or adjectives click on the slider next to the parts of speech you wish to modify

  • To customize the color of a particular part of speech click the drop-down arrow next to part of speech you wish to modify

  • A pop-up window will appear with color choices

  • Click on on the color you prefer. It will be the new color will be assigned to that part of speech

LINE FOCUS

  • To turn on the “Line Focus”, click on the slider bar

  • There are three choices available: single line, a small group of lines, and a larger group of lines

Home (toolbar)

Speech-to-Text

  1. Click anywhere in the document where you whish to enter text

  2. Click on the "Dictate" icon

  3. Click "allow"

  4. You will hear a beep and see a red dot appear on top of the icon. This indicates that speech-to-text is active

  5. Speak, and the text will appear as you talk

  6. Click on the "Dictate" icon to stop

  7. You can dictate in a different language by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to “Dictate” to view more language options. Click on the preferred language
