29th District Democrats Hold First Endorsement Meeting for the 2026 August Primary

TACOMA — On the evening of Monday, May 11th, 2026, the 29th Legislative District Democrats convened their primary endorsement meeting to determine the organization’s support for the upcoming 2026 election cycle. Starting at 7:00 PM PST, nearly 40 Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) and members gathered to vet candidates and cast their votes in a series of key local, state, and federal races.
Following a robust period of presentations and member discussion, the body successfully endorsed candidates in several highly watched contests. To secure an endorsement, candidates were required to meet the 66% threshold established in the 29th LD Standing Rules.
The following candidates received the official endorsement of the 29th District Democrats:
State Senator (LD 29): Sharlett Mena — 93.3% (28/30 votes)
State Representative Pos. 2 (LD 29): Patrick Stickney — 75.8% (25/33 votes)
State Representative Pos. 1 (LD 29): Krista Perez — 67.6% (25/37 votes)
Pierce County Auditor: Linda Farmer — 83% (20/24 votes)
Pierce County Prosecutor: Coreen Schnepf — 68% (17/25 votes)
Pierce County Council District 5: Bryan Yambe — (Endorsed by Acclamation)
WA State Supreme Court, Pos. 1: Colleen Melody — 86.4% (19/22 votes)
WA State Supreme Court, Pos. 3: Mike Diaz — 66.7% (14/21 votes)
The body also considered several other races where no candidate reached the necessary 66% threshold for a formal endorsement. These included the U.S. House of Representatives (CD 10), where incumbent Marilyn Strickland fell short of the threshold with 60.1% of the vote, and WA State Supreme Court Positions 4 and 5. In State Rep Pos. 2, though several candidates were nominated, Patrick Stickney emerged as the sole endorsed candidate for that seat.
All candidates engaged with the membership in accordance with the 29th LD Standing Rules, which require submission of a candidate questionnaire and attendance or representation at the endorsement meeting.
The meeting was conducted under Robert’s Rules of Order, 12th Edition, and chaired in accordance with the Bylaws of the 29th LD. Endorsements reflected the democratic will of eligible voting members.
