TACOMA — On the evening of Wednesday, July 9th, the 29th Legislative District Democrats held their second-round endorsement meeting for the 2025 Primary Election. Over 25 Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) were in attendance to participate in this important part of the democratic process.
Following presentations and discussion, the body endorsed candidates in several contested races:
Bryan Yambe for Pierce County Council District 5, receiving 20 YES votes (80%)
Anders Ibsen for Mayor of Tacoma, receiving 19 YES votes (73.1%)
Latasha Palmer for Tacoma City Council Position 6, receiving 18 YES votes (78.3%)
Silong Chhun for Tacoma City Council Position 4, receiving 15 YES votes (71.4%)
Ellen Talbo for Lakewood City Council Position 1, receiving 13 YES votes (81.3%)
Each candidate surpassed the required 66% threshold for endorsement, as established in the 29th LD Standing Rules.
The body also considered—but did not endorse—candidates in the following races due to none reaching the endorsement threshold:
Zev Cook and Joe Bushnell – Tacoma City Council Position 5
John McCarthy and Randy Wilson – Port of Tacoma Position 1
Dan Knox and Cyrus Donato – Port of Tacoma Position 4
John Caverly – Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Commissioner Position 3
All candidates engaged with the membership in accordance with the 29th LD Standing Rules, which require submission of a candidate questionnaire and attendance or representation at the endorsement meeting.
The meeting was conducted under Robert’s Rules of Order, 12th Edition, and chaired in accordance with the Bylaws of the 29th LD. Endorsements reflected the democratic will of eligible voting members. The 29th Legislative District Democrats remain committed to engaging voters, supporting Democratic values, and helping elect candidates who will best serve our diverse communities.
