Day 26
I have done this project for years in my 3rd grade classroom. It is the perfect winter craft, as it adds a great winter feel to the classroom, parents love receiving this gift, and it is durable enough to be packed away year after year, yet look just as beautiful as the first year it was made. Plus, it is a very low cost craft.
Supplies Needed
- Fold-Top Sandwich Baggies. I ask my students to bring in 300 of them for this project. (Many kids get them from the Dollar Store.)
- Wire (Floral Wire works out well, as well as electric fence wire that you can buy large quantities of.)
- Wire cutters
- Decorative Wired Ribbon
Steps
Form the Wired Wreaths
Depending on the size of wreath you would like to make, cut the wire to that length and make sure you leave enough room at the top to create a loop for the wreath to hang.
The edges of the wire could be sharp, so make sure you curve the wire when making your loop. (When doing this with my third graders, I put their name on masking tape and loop it through this area for easy identification.)
Tie Simple Knots with the Baggies
Using the longest side of the baggie, condense it so that it can be tied around the wire. Tie it in a simple knot and repeat over and over. Make sure to scrunch the baggies as tight as you can to make a fuller wreath.
To finish, add a wired bow and display with pride!
Again, the best thing about this wreath, it is very durable and can get packed away each year without getting ruined. Each year parents simply get it out, fluff it up a bit, perhaps change the ribbon to fit their decorations, and display it. I have parents with college-aged kiddos that still have them hanging! So if you want a simple winter craft/gift, I highly suggest making these!
Enjoy Your Winter Break!!
