1 Corinthians 3:10-23
The End of Days Will Bring All Things to Light
10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
16Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
18Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness"; 20and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." 21So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
I am not convinced that science thinks about the eternities, as much as it thinks about progress, the next discover, the next thing, and newer and faster technologies...
Jesus teaches about the eternities...He taught the value of God, and treasures that would always last, and never get old...Jesus taught that our life's focus should be working on and making our choices that would increase and lay up our treasure and treasures in heaven...These treasures of heaven neither rust and are not destroyed by moths...They are eternal...They are everlasting...
A man's daily choices will be shown for what it is, because on the Day, our eternal Day, the Day of Judgement all things will come to light...Our daily choices will be revealed with fire and the fire will test the quality of each of the daily choices and work's, we have made... When we look at life this way, we are no longer looking at our daily desires, our daily happiness, or each of our daily pleasures...When life is viewed as Jesus and St. Paul explains here, our priorities change...We go from our daily thinking to a more eternal thinking...No longer (if we believe what St. Paul is saying) do we view the daily things in life as important (as we used to)...We now view the importance of the eternities...Life then is no longer represented by the here and now, and the attitude of if it feels good now, is no longer the right attitude...
C. S. Lewis, in his book The Four Loves, said that all that is not eternal, is eternally out of date...Science and our modern times and our modern age scoff at this idea, because it is so hard to prove...Though very hard to prove, Jesus', St. Paul's and Lewis's point give our life meaning and purpose...New technologies, more and fast and newer information, and newer machines may make us more comfortable, but comfort on earth, is not eternal or heaven...
Our lives are modern, in a sense...Science and technology seem to become more and more a part of our lives faster everyday each year, if not each week, or even each day...Each month now, it seems there is a new cell phone, a new computer, or computer tablet, new information coming out and screaming at us...The old things are being replaced by new things faster and faster...How are our minds perceiving this new information and these new technologies, while trying to embrace the Truth about life...The eternities seem to be losing their luster in some areas of our lives...The reason maybe we do not have time for everything that is going on around us...The story of Jesus can get put aside and pushed aside as we get newer technologies, newer and faster information, and as we get caught up in modern science...Jesus stood up two thousand years ago, and said I AM the truth...The Truth remains the Truth, whether it is two thousand years old, or one day old...
