Worked-examples of how to create a Finescale System
Constructing an entire Model Railway accurately to scale is an ambitious task that needs a whole System, over and above the associated Standards sheet. Fortunately, we don't have to start from scratch because the steps are well documented in the annals of P4 in 4mm:1ft and and S7 in 7mm:1ft. In our larger size, we may not make all the same choices, yet the same fundamental processes are inescapable, and recalling how others have tackled them is very illuminating.
Here, for historical interest, is the Standards Sheet suggested for Gauge 1 by the pioneer Model Railway Study Group, originators of P4:
