For this project, I researched two recent cybersecurity news articles to learn how cyberattacks affect individuals, companies, and organisations. I selected two different types of cybersecurity issues: a healthcare data breach caused by phishing and a fake Income Tax Department malware scam. This project helped me understand the importance of digital privacy, strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and careful online behaviour.
Cybersecurity in the News Articles
This article reports that healthcare technology company Xsolis experienced a data breach affecting nearly 1.4 million people. The breach happened after a targeted phishing attack gave unauthorised users access to files containing personal and protected health information. The affected people may have had private details exposed, such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance details, and medical information. This is a cybersecurity issue involving phishing, privacy, and identity theft risk. To help prevent this type of incident, organisations should train employees to recognise phishing emails, use multi-factor authentication, limit access to sensitive files, and monitor systems for suspicious activity.

The truthfulness and integrity of the facts: This article appears accurate because it reports details from Xsolis’ data breach disclosure and includes specific information about the number of affected individuals and the type of data involved.
How is it written and presented? The article is written in a professional news style. Its purpose is to inform readers about a real cybersecurity incident, not to persuade or entertain.
Links and Citations: The article includes related cybersecurity links and refers to official breach information.
Watch Out — That Income Tax Form Could Actually Be Dangerous Malware
This article explains that a new phishing campaign is targeting users in India by pretending to be official Income Tax Department notices. The attackers created a fake website that looked like the real Indian Income Tax Department website and tricked people into downloading a ZIP file that appeared to contain tax documents. Instead, the file contained malware that could install a Remote Access Trojan, giving attackers access to the victim’s computer. This is a cybersecurity issue involving phishing, malware, spoofing, and identity theft risk. To protect ourselves, we should never download tax files from unknown links, verify messages only on the official income tax website, avoid opening suspicious ZIP attachments, and keep antivirus protection up to date.

Lessons Learned :
From this project, I learned that cybersecurity is an important part of using computers, phones, and the internet safely. I now understand that threats such as phishing emails, malware, fake websites, and online scams can affect both individuals and large organisations. I also learned that protecting personal information is not only about using security tools, but also about making smart choices online. Simple habits like creating strong passwords, turning on multi-factor authentication, updating software, checking links carefully, and avoiding suspicious downloads can help prevent many cybersecurity problems.
