When a student will be absent from Physical Education for longer than 4 class periods, they must meet the standards of the course through other means. Absences lasting up to 3 weeks equate to a Short Term Assignment each week. Absences from PE for 4 weeks or longer constitutes a Long Term Assignment each 5 weeks.
Medically excused absences must be approved by the school nurse. Absences lasting 2 weeks or longer will result in the student temporarily being scheduled for a Study Hall during the period of their PE class. While scheduled for Study Hall, the student will be required to stay for the purposes of attendance and completing PE assignments.
Any student who is participating in physical therapy for at least 150 minutes per week during their medical absence from PE may apply for Option Two Credit for the weeks they are involved in PT. Completed applications must be received by the school counselor at the beginning of the medical leave from PE to be considered. Students using physical therapy for PE will be required to make the presentation and the short essay as outlined in the Option Two application.
