We offer volunteer opportunities for music or art therapy, clerical or office work, and companionship. Most of our volunteers opt for the companionship opportunities. Companionship and clerical work may fit best for the students.
Companionship: volunteers are introduced to one of our facilities and the patients there. During a volunteer visit, a volunteer may sit with a patient to lend a listening ear, read a book, write a letter, treasure a memory, watch TV, take part in the activities the facility provides, or simply be a much-needed presence for a hospice patient. There are 10 facilities within a 20-minute drive of Verona. The closest facilities are:
Alaris Health at Cedar Grove - Cedar Grove
Canterbury Care & Rehabilitation Center - Cedar Grove
Green Hill Senior Living and Rehabilitation - West Orange
Sunrise Senior Living - West Orange
The Cliffs at Eagle Rock - West Orange
Clerical or office work: volunteers assist with administrative tasks in Serenity Offices. The Serenity North Office is located at 150 Morris Ave, Springfield NJ. This is about a 30-minute drive from Verona.
The schedule of the visits are completely flexible. Volunteers decide when they want to visit and for how long. We just appreciate the time our volunteers donate to us.
We reimburse mileage to and from the facility. If the volunteer needs to Uber to or from the facility, we will reimburse them.
We also provide an orientation with training and tips! So no experience is necessary.
