Important Food Allergy Information for the Upcoming School Year
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you’re enjoying a restful and relaxing summer!
As we prepare for the start of the new school year, I wanted to take a moment to review our food allergy protocols. These procedures reflect current best practices in the industry and support our strong commitment to student health and safety.
Attached you will find two helpful resources:
Allergy Statement Letter to Parents
Why Pre-Order?
These documents explain how we manage food allergies in our school meal program and highlight the importance of pre-ordering meals for students with documented food allergies beyond peanut and tree nut.
While students with only peanut or tree nut allergies may participate in the lunch program without pre-ordering, pre-ordering is strongly recommended for families whose children have:
Other documented food allergies (e.g., dairy, egg, sesame, etc.)
Multiple allergies, including peanut/tree nut
Meals are prepared by trained staff in a designated allergy-safe area, and ingredients are thoroughly checked to avoid allergens and prevent cross-contact.
A few important reminders:
At the elementary level, Pomptonian does not prepare foods that contain coconut as an ingredient. This policy, introduced last school year based on parent feedback, remains in effect.
Pre-ordering from the allergy-aware menus helps ensure your child receives a meal that has been prepared with the highest level of care and safety.
Some products, such as bagels, may be made in facilities that also process sesame, so it’s important to choose meals from the designated allergy menus if this is a concern.
The allergy-aware pre-order menus will be available alongside the regular lunch menus at:

Your school’s Business Administrator will also be receiving a “Welcome Back” flyer with key updates and allergy information. We encourage you to review it and share it within your school community.
Please also share this information with your building nurse, and encourage them to review it with any parents/guardians of students who have documented food allergies. I’m happy to connect directly with school nurses if they have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe. Wishing you and your family a healthy and successful 2025–2026 school year!
Warm regards,
High School Administration
