Community Service Documentation

1. You must fulfill a minimum of 5 hours of community service per semester; 10 hours per year

    • Your community service hours count as 5% of your Academy Course Grades.

    • Approved community service agencies are listed here. Your community service must focus on science or STEM related agencies. Unlisted agencies can be submitted for approval by written request to Mrs. Fergus Career Specialist. Guidance for this can be found here at the Media Center's Site.

    • You are encouraged to seek out agencies that may offer you job shadow experiences, such as ones that are offered through VCMC or CMHS Auxiliary Program.

2. Service hours are due one week prior to finals week of each semester, submitted to your respective teacher, Mr. Baker or Mrs. Anderson for fulfillment of Academy Requirements using an acceptable documentation form. However, service hours may be checked quarterly or throughout the semester to ensure that students have actively been looking or are fulfilling their hours in a timely way.

    • An acceptable documentation form may include a copy of the FTHS Community Service form used in the Media Center, the Bioscience Community Service Form, or the HOSA Community Service Form.

        • Don't forget to pre-print and bring your form to your volunteer location for the supervisor on site to sign and verify it!

    • If you use the FTHS Community Service Form, take a picture for Mrs. Fergus, so you can get community service credit for the school AND give Mrs. Anderson the original so that you can get credit also in Bioscience.

3. Semester 1 Community Service hours can roll over to Semester 2, if more than 5 hours are completed in the first semester. However, excess community service hours cannot roll over to the next academic year.

    • It is important for community service to be current for you to develop your resume and CV, which is why we require service every year of your Academy experience.
