Medical Technology (H)

Medical Technology (H) is a rigorous laboratory science course that applies the knowledge learned in Physiology (H) to real life skills and procedures. Students will be focusing on the anatomical and physiological details of different body systems, then practice specific skills that would be used by emergency medical responders, healthcare workers, clinical lab scientists, lab technicians, public health officials, and more.

Medical and trauma care is taught in this course, resulting in First Aid/CPR certification by the American Heart Association. Students participate in a multi- casualty triage drill to hone and perfect their skills. Clinical microbiology skills previously introduced in BioScience Survey is advanced with cultivation, identification, and biochemical testing of bacteria, while adhering to compliant lab documentation practices. Career connections are provided through guest speakers, job shadows with industry partners, as well as field trips.

"I met my first Epidemiologist while working on the Bioscience disease project and it shaped my decisions post graduation considerably. Additionally I was able to learn in a way that drastically differed from most other courses and that really encouraged me and drove my love for school."
