Bioscience Survey

BioScience Survey is a unique 10th grade course that offers first exposure to the types of occupations for which students may be interested in both the health and biotechnology fields. Students explore their personality types and learn about career fields that best suit their disposition and interests. They are introduced to the fundamentals of molecular biology and apply their knowledge using introductory laboratory skills. These include aseptic technique, bacterial plating, maintenance of model organisms, and the use of basic lab equipment, while adhering to compliant lab documentation practices. Students will learn about the organization and history of the world of biotechnology and health science and look at their many applications. To broaden their exposure to these fields, career connections are provided through speaker series, field trips, and college visits.

This course meets during 1st period, so students may need to check with their counselors to make sure they make room in their schedule for Bioscience. Required electives, like art, can be taken in the summer or through Ventura College to create space for Bioscience Survey. Click right on the photos and take a sneak peak.
