Dear Fir Grove Families and Students,
We wanted to take an opportunity to check in with you and talk about handling the current school closure and the effect it can have on mental health.
We know that this outbreak has impacted everyone. We know that our students at Fir Grove often struggle with transitions, changes and less structure. This impacts them in many ways, including their mental health, their behaviors and how they interact with everyone around them. You have gone from having them at school 6 ½ hours a day to being home together full time. With social distancing and everything closing, it can really increase everyone’s anxiety, frustrations and impact any current mental health that people are already dealing with.
At Fir Grove, as you know, we have three mental health specialists. Becky Davis, Tami Ammerman and Robb Talbott. When school was in session, students often engaged in check-ins with Becky, Tami and Robb. I want to take this moment to encourage you to reach out to them and schedule check ins. These check in’s can be for the student, for the parent, or for both. Sometimes it’s helpful to just have someone hear what you are going through and help you with ideas on how to handle specific situations.
We have many different resources that are being gathered on the local, state and federal level. This includes issues around insurance coverage and mental health agencies. I wanted to take a moment and make sure that you have all of the information you need around mental health for you and your family. Below, please find the emails for each of our mental health specialists. They can work with you and your child by phone, zoom, email and the Remind App. I have also included a current list of information about the crisis line and the different community mental health agencies in Clark County.
