Adult Visitors and Volunteers

Upon arriving at the school, all visitors should check in at the office. Visitors will not enter any school building or classroom without the permission of an administrative staff member. Valorous Academy also prohibits adults, including parents, from entering Buildings 1, 3, and 4 to drop off their student. Parents may drop students off in the office (Building 2).

Adults looking to volunteer whether during the day or at a school event, must first pass a background check. Interested adults should contact the school office at hello@valorousacademy.com for information regarding how to become a volunteer.

Field Trips

Individual classes or the school as a whole may take field trips throughout the year. Permission slips will be required to be signed by a parent prior to the student leaving campus for a field trip. Student drivers may not drive themselves on field trips without explicit permission from a parent. If the student is 18 years of age or older, the student may sign their own permission slip to be transported during the field trip or to drive themselves during the field trip.

Chaperones must be approved by the teacher in charge of the field trip and pass a background check through the school. Chaperones who are driving for the field trip must also have a valid driver’s license, a copy of their car insurance,  and follow all traffic laws while transporting Valorous Academy students or staff.

If the field trip is a SCISA trip, students and chaperones must follow SCISA dress code rules as outlined at scisa.org. On all other field trips, students will follow the standard Valorous Academy uniform and dress code rules unless otherwise noted by administration.

Refunds for field trips may be given, at the administration's discretion, if payment to the field trip location has not already been made. If the school has already incurred fees following a student's registration for a field trip, a refund may not be possible.

Overnight Trips

Students participating in overnight trips will adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times. Failure to do so will result in the family being required to pick the student up from the trip location, or provide alternate transportation home.

Students will be punctual for all activities, maintain a clean and orderly environment, and demonstrate respect for others, including their peers, chaperones, and members of the public. Students will stay with their designated groups or assigned buddies and chaperones.  Students will stay in their assigned accommodations at the times specified by their chaperones. Students or their families will be responsible if charges are incurred due to property damage (for example, hotel fees for damaged items).

Disciplinary actions may be taken for misbehavior on an overnight trip, either immediately during the trip or upon the student’s return. Disciplinary actions will follow those outlined in this handbook.

An appropriate number of approved chaperones will be responsible for the safety and supervision of students on overnight trips. All chaperones must be background checked and approved by the school administration to attend the trip.

Chaperones will be responsible for administering any over-the-counter or prescription medications. Students under the age of 18 cannot carry medications on their person, unless they are permitted to carry a life-saving medication such as insulin, an Epi-Pen, or inhaler.

Families must sign all required forms prior to the student attending the trip. Specific information regarding accommodations, schedule, etc. for overnight trips will be provided to families along with any required forms.

Lockers

Secondary students will be assigned their own locker as lockers are available, with priority given to the oldest students by grade. Students will only access their own locker, and are not permitted to open other students’ lockers.

Locks are not permitted on lockers. Decorations are not permitted. Lockers are for books and school materials only. Students are expected to keep their lockers organized and clean.

The school may search any student’s locker at any time for any reason deemed necessary, with or without the student present, and involve law enforcement if deemed necessary.

Students are responsible for maintaining a clean locker at all times, and deep cleaning their lockers (removal of all trash, organizing personal items, and wiping surfaces) at least once per quarter.

Students who do not follow locker policies may lose their locker assignment.

Parent-Teacher Connection (PTC)

The Parent-Teacher Connection (PTC) consists of parents and teachers partnering together to support the development of the critical partnership between school, family, and community. The PTC fosters a positive impact on academic success of students. This group is responsible for implementing activities for school fundraising, dances (formals and prom), teacher appreciation week, class parent involvement, and other various events and activities throughout the school year.
