Why NJROTC

About Us

The Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program was established by Public Law in 1964 which may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102. The NJROTC Program at Cienega High School,Vail, Arizona was established in 2012 . NJROTC is a "two-in-one class". Not only is it an elective, but also a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Class as well. It’s also one of the only CTE Class Freshman can register for! The class is run by former military officers and enlisted personnel. Cienega High School's NJROTC is the only NJROTC in Vail, AZ. The program is inclusive to all of the Vail schools in the district and everyone not attending Cienega High School takes the class during zero hour.

Our Goal

Our goal as a NJROTC unit is to teach your cadet basic principles of leadership, teamwork, and discipline. Our program is based on structure for constant growth and improvement for your cadet! Your cadet's involvement in the program is purely volunteer and intrinsically motivated. NJROTC is a Citizenship Development Program. We are not a military recruitment program and the desire to serve in the military is NOT a prerequisite to taking this course. If military service is desired after high school, there are numerous college scholarship opportunities available through the different military branches are in addition to all of the military service academies.  Successful completion of 3 or more years of NJROTC also allows those who enlist in the military to join at an advanced paygrade above E-1. Our instructors and cadet leadership are very committed to help in the growth and success of your cadet, and are there every step of the way ensuring a positive experience within the NJROTC program.
