Dear VUSD Staff,
To better protect our district accounts, VUSD will soon begin implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all staff Google accounts.
MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring both your password and a secondary verification method (such as your cell phone) to access your account. This is similar to the added security used by banking apps.
Once you “trust” a device—like your classroom or office computer—you’ll rarely need to use the secondary method again.
VUSD has been targeted by phishing and hacking attempts designed to obtain staff passwords. In some cases, hackers have impersonated district employees to trick students into visiting malicious sites. MFA helps prevent this by ensuring only verified users can access VUSD accounts.
The Technology Department will roll out MFA one site at a time, beginning with the Educational Services Center (ESC). Staff at each site will receive simple self-enrollment instructions ahead of implementation.
When MFA becomes required at your site, Technology Specialists will be on-site to assist anyone needing help during setup.
Our goal is to have MFA fully implemented district-wide before the winter break.
This initiative has been developed with input and support from district administration, VTA, and SEIU to ensure a smooth transition for all staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our district’s digital environment secure.
Sincerely,
Ken Johnson
