Letters of Recommendation

Help People Help you

At our school, we ask all students to fill in a "What Sets me Apart?" document. Student fill this in the second semester of their IBDP year 1. It should be uploaded to the Counselor folder that has been shared with you and has your name on it. This is step one in creating a sense of who you are and what you have already accomplished.

No teacher or counselor can remember everything about you. It is also important that you recognize you are the designer of your application. When asking a teacher for a letter, please be specific why you have asked them. Refresh their memory about an instance where you overcame a challenge in their class. Remind them of the habits that you feel are exemplary.

You also should coordinate which teachers are talking about specific activities and attributes. If you feel the CAS coordinator/mentor will be the best person to talk about your service work at UWC, make sure you share with your counselor all of the terrific things you did before. If there is a lot to mention, you want to be sure everyone isn't writing about the same one item and five others are not getting mentioned. Complete the Teacher Brag Sheet for each of the teachers you are requesting letters from with unique information shared on each document that is not repetitive so that you letters will not be.
