UWC Costa Rica

Model United Nations 2021

Welcome to the Model of the United Nations at UWC Costa Rica. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the 11th Model of the United Nations at our school, with students with diverse walks of life and backgrounds working together to find peace!

MEET YOUR ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

SECRETARY-GENERAL
Miguel Fuentes

Dear delegates,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to this edition of the UWC Costa Rica MUN. I’m Miguel Fuentes from Mexico and I will be serving as your Secretary-General. I have always believed that MUN is just like pretending you’re a doctor with Play-doh; however, the reason why I’ve dedicated my time to this is the reason behind the MUN. We are shedding light on the problems of the world, we’re having the awkward conversations the people need to have and we are trying to get solutions to these problems. I’m happy we all have the opportunity to do it in this event. Looking forward to see y'all in the conference!

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the MUN.

DEPUTY SECRETARY-GENERAL
Adrian Cardona

Dear delegates,

My name is Adrián Cardona Young from Costa Rica. As Deputy Secretary-General, I have worked with Miguel and the chairs to ensure this conference's success. I have been participating in MUN for the past 5 years, and it has been a life changing experience. MUN is a great opportunity to get to know new people and expand your horizons. Take this opportunity to learn and explore, try new things. Have conversations, make friends, and most of all, have fun. We're here to help you with anything you need. I’ll see you at the conference.

DIRECTOR-GENERAL
Thidasi De Silva

Dear Delegates,

I am very excited to welcome you all to the 2021 UWC Costa Rica MUN. My name is Thidasi De Silva and I am your Director General for this year. In every school I've attended in the past, I've always endeavoured to take full advantage of the MUN program because I believe it teaches us valuable lessons that are transferable to so many aspects of our future. For example, delegates are provided with the perfect environment to practise out of the box thinking and the value of perspectives, combined with the importance of finding your own stance on issues. Because of all MUN has done for me in the past, I am going to do my best as your Director General to make this year's MUN as enriching as mine always has been.

HEAD OF LOGISTICS
Enriko B. Datu

Greetings Delegates,

My name is Enriko Bean Datu and I am from the Philippines and Singapore. Unlike the many conferences I have attended before, MUN at UWC Costa Rica is the most enriching and unique representation of this activity I have experienced. Maybe it is the campus, maybe the iguanas - or perhaps maybe it is because there are almost as many nationalities held by delegates as there are countries to represent in this conference.

Although my title does not sound as fancy as the three floating heads above mine, rest assured every member of this committee has put forth their best to ensure you the best MUN experience, online or physical.

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Hannah Smith

Dear Delegates,

My name is Hannah Smith from Jamaica and I am the Editor in Chief for MUN 2021 at United World College Costa Rica. My role in MUN is to oversee the distribution of information on the event through the publication of articles and updates on social media as well as to create and provide graphical content. MUN is giving students from varying demographics the ability to exercise their free speech and I intend on voicing their opinions as impartially as possible.

INTERNATIONAL PRESS
Paulo Sangala

Dear Delegates,

My name is Paulo Sangala from Malawi, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. I am the Head of International Press and this year's Model United Nations at UWC Costa Rica. My role is to organize and ensure this year's MUN is well documented for an audience to view the event. Through a camera lens or the words of a journalist, I will ensure family and friends can see your successes and progress over the few days we have.

HEAD OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
Guillermo Mendoza

Hola Delegates,

My name is Guillermo Mendoza from Bolivia and Mexico. It is that time of the year, it feels like a Wednesday for a month and you have to be wearing a suit for 10% of it. UWC Costa Rica MUN, allows its delegates to build upon themselves at the same time, as they provide others with the building blocks for their own growth. As a member organizing team, and former delegate, I know that underneath those sweaty blazers and cool fits, lies the potential to change the world-even if it's just one socially awkward teenager at a time. It may sound a bit cliché, I know, but it is true nevertheless.

Here you can find the Itinerary for the opening and closing ceremonies and the whole MUN schedule for the next three days. Please let us know if you have any questions.
