US Cabinet

Topic: U.S. Cabinet 9/11 Extraordinary Session

About the committee

On September 11th 2001, under the presidency of George W. Bush, four planes were hijacked by 19 individuals from the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda financed by Osama Bin Laden. The planes were tools of destruction utilized by these individuals in order to conduct suicidal attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in the U.S capitol. The first plane, Boeing 757 crashed into the Pentagon located in Washington D.C. devastating the building that holds the Department of Defense of the United States. Furthermore, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center at the twin towers causing their collapse, while the last plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people died in this tragic event.

Following the events surrounding the 11th of September, President Bush issued an order stating that the United States military was to invade Afghanistan with the intent to remove the Taliban. He declared: “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” (History.com Editors) In this committee, the United States Cabinet will discuss in an extraordinary session the course of action after these events, including the possible invasion of Afghanistan, the creation of The Homeland Security Department, the war with terrorism, and the possible repercussions in a long term plan.
