Where our design may fall short
TutorMatch relies on having enough qualified tutors available. If too few tutors sign up for a subject, students may not get matched quickly or at all. The app also depends on a stable internet connection for live sessions, which could be a barrier for some students.
Assumptions we made
Our design assumes students are willing to set their own preferences and that they have access to a laptop or desktop. It also assumes the university will partner with us to make the app free through tuition, which may not always be realistic.
Trade-offs we accepted
We chose desktop over mobile to make the live session experience better, but this means students lose the convenience of quick access on their phones. We also kept AI features focused on support rather than automation, which means the app does less "for" the user but stays true to our goal of real learning.
How the design could evolve
In the future, TutorMatch could expand to other universities while staying free through tuition. We could build a mobile version, and integrate features like Google Calendar sync and group tutoring. Over time, the AI could create personalized study plans based on a student's syllabus and progress.
