Critical and Creative thinking

In my “Artist Statement for Video Remix” I definitely used critical and creative thinking throughout the project by combining the art of conceptualizing values and video editing with Adobe Premiere software. The name for this class is “Arts Workshop: The Art of The Remix”, BISMCS 343. The learning objective was to learn how to use Protools and Adobe Premiere while also learning how to create conceptual art with these tools. This was one of my first chances to artistically express myself through video production. I felt passionate about feminism and expression through media art so I created a short video that questioned old-fashion mentalities about females through media. The media I used in this film was a compiled archive of commercial clippings from beauty product and doll TV commercials. The conceptual aspect was that I added a Beyonce song called "Flawless" that has a feminism (use "feminist") message throughout it and this played over the clippings to create a sense of irony. It was fulfilling to express myself by using a new medium of choice. In order to combine video with audio in a way that makes sense and tells a story requires using critical and creative thinking. could have more here about the process of critical and creative thinking My artist statement was a place where I could reflect on this video making process and understand more about the process it took to work up this concept and video.

Another example of using critical and creative thinking was my “Final Project Artist Statement” for that same class. The goal of the project was to create a conceptual idea that uses “flarf”, an avant garde poetry movement which focuses on the random sequences of words. We were told to use a blog page like Tumblr to show case ("showcase") our concepts. I chose to feature two concepts: 1) “Real women have curves” and 2) "thinspiration" photos. "Thinspiration" is a movement that glamorizes incredibly thin women, anorexic in some cases. The contrast between the two opposing mind frames was supposed to create irony and make people think objectively. how would it do this? I chose this piece as an example because this abstract art project was able to showcase my mindset associated with body size. can you say more about here how you did this? I believe that the media plays a huge role in what society accepts and I thought the visual would make for an interesting project. The back and fourth discourse between having more curves or being thinner is an overwhelmingly impossible issue to face. The learning objective was to use blogs as a medium of conceptual art expression and to curate an online page with a desired effect in mind. My blog was supposed to create a feeling of uneasy tension to a controversial topic by focusing on the back and fourth differences between two majorly different body preferences that both happen to be unhealthy mindsets. describe how this worked? This was a task that required major critical and creative thinking because it took a ton of time and personal reflection.

could expand here on the processes of critical and creative thinking--analysis, testing assumptions, arriving at conclusions, etc.

Hello Chelsea,

Good work on this revision--the additions really help clarify your ideas. Great projects!

Could still be a bit more specific in your analysis of your processes--see comments.

Hello Chelsey,

Interesting artifacts, and good examples of the learning objective. Need to be much more specific, though--an analyze how and why you have chosen the artifacts to represent critical and creative thinking in more detailed ways--see comments.

Need to attach artifacts at the bottom of the page.
