Cover Letter
Dear Mr. Birkinbine,
I was pleasantly surprised (use "excited"?) to see an opening for a Part-Time News Assistant at your station, and I hope to have the chance to interview with you.
My background in broadcast media includes two recent internships at King 5. I was an intern for the television program New Day Northwest from January through early April. I assisted the producers in writing web stories, editing video clips, transcribing scripts, among many other various tasks. My most recent internship was also at King 5 but in a separate department. I worked(omit) in the Morning News department where I worked from April through the end of June. I was able to job shadow and work closely with the reporters, the editors, the producers, the teleprompter runners and the assignment desk crew.
I have recently graduated from the University of Washington with a Media Communications Bachelors degree. This has allowed me to attend various (can write "Throughout my education I took a number of") media production classes that have been helpful for me in my internships. For example, in my advanced media production course I learned all about the process(use processes) of of pre-production, production and post-production. While attending school, I also worked closely with the UWave Radio team on campus and worked with(use "in") the programming department. I co-hosted shows, promoted events, managed the blog and gained further broadcast knowledge through this experience.
I have mastered Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and I have general knowledge of computer software such as Adobe Premiere, Final cut pro, Pro Tools and ENPS.
In addition to this experience, I worked as a server in the restaurant industry for six years. In this capacity I have gained considerable communication skills and have learned how to work well under extremely high-pressure situations. This experience has also taught me the importance of working in a team environment.
I am confident that I would be a valuable KIRO7 team member and News Assistant. Previous internship experience has prepared me to understand broadcast industry trends. I also know that in live TV punctuality and efficiency is required at all times. I feel confident(avoid repeating words.) that I can work well with the KIRO7 news team, complete tasks in a timely manner and assist with getting the show on the air smoothly.
Sincerely,
Chelsey Cunningham
Dear Mr. Birkinbine,
I was thrilled (use a more neutral word here) to see an opening for a Part-Time News Assistant at your station, and I hope to have the chance to interview with you.
My background in broadcast media includes two recent internships at King 5. I was first an intern (provide dates?) for the television program New Day Northwest and I assisted the producers in writing web stories, editing video clips, transcribing scripts among many other tasks as well. My most recent internship was also at King 5 except in the Morning News department. I was able to job shadow and work closely with the reporters, the editors, the producers, the teleprompter runners and the assignment desk crew. dates?
I have recently graduated from the University of Washington with a Media Communications Bachelors degree. While attending school, I worked closely with the UWave Radio team on campus and was able to work (use "work"--leave off "was able") with the programming department, co-host shows, promote events, manage the blog and gain further broadcast knowledge. could write a little more here--can you mention coursework in which you developed related skills and abilities?
I have mastered Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and I have general knowledge of computer software such as Adobe Premiere, Final cut pro, Pro Tools and ENPS.
In addition to this experience, I have? worked as a server in the restaurant industry for six years. In this capacity (or something like that) I have gained considerable communication skills and have learned how to work well under extremely high-pressure situations. This experience has also taught me the importance of working in a team environment.
I am confident that I would be a valuable KIRO7 team member and News Assistant. Previous internship experience has conditioned( word choice) me to understand the(omit) broadcast industry trends. I also know that in live TV punctuality and efficiency is required at all times. I feel confident that I can work well with the KIRO7 news team, complete tasks in a timely manner and assist with getting the show on the air smoothly.

Hi Chelsea,
Good work on this revision--you make a convincing case for yourself and provide good evidence of your qualifications.
It might also be a good idea to include something about your personality to describe yourself more subjectively--could pick from some concepts like these, for example: hard-working, dependable, responsible, cheerful, willing to learn, having a sense of humor, enthusiastic, cooperative, collaborative, helpful, energetic, dynamic, or anything else that characterizes you in a work setting.
You could add wording using some of these terms in a couple of sentences, maybe in the next-to-the-last paragraph or the last paragraph. What do you think? I am happy to go over the letter again if you would like--just let me know.

Thank you for the feedback. I revised the cover letter according to your critiques, my class mates didn't have a whole lot to say so I did my best to change it up as best as I could. I am happy with the result and apologize if you think I could have changed it around more.

Hello Chelsea,
Good work on this letter-nicely written, well organized and convincing. I have made a few minor comments/edits--hope they are helpful. Though this is already a very good cover letter, I encourage you to use the Career Center's services-they are great with cover letters, resumes and practice interviews.
