A discussion around the implications of AI writing fiction and reader's experiences reading AI generated content. Is there a difference? How do you know? What makes a story valuable? Meaningful? Addressing the value of being able to craft fiction as it relates to storytelling and human life experiences.

Assignment/Activity

“Don’t Write an Illustrated Short Story”

This assignment asks students to explore how AI can be used to write and illustrate a short story. For a brief introduction to the tools, it can be done with a single prompt to chatGPT and  DALL-E and made into a sharable story like this one. For a longer assignment, the initial prompts can be refined both for the story plot and the illustrations. Additionally, it could be done in a small group or with others to refine plot and illustrations.

• Use AI to create an illustrated story

• Analyze and refine plot of the story and illustrations

chatGPT, DALL-E, Adobe Express or similar tools for sharing story
