A “What’s Next” Presentation is for seniors who have been accepted to UVU for the upcoming fall semester. During this presentation, they will learn about orientation, academic advising, deferred admissions, housing, transportation, etc. After the presentation always leave time for Q&A.
These are the steps to set up a “What’s Next” Presentation:
Step 1 - Email counselors
Step 2 - Pull a list of students from Recruit
Step 3 - Schedule a date/time
Step 4 - Get approval for food
Step 5 - Verify counselor will market event
Step 6 - Order food (tax exempt!)
Step 7 - Get materials ready
Step 1. Email counselors and ask them if they would like UVU to come and share a presentation to their seniors (during lunch) about their next steps.
SAMPLE EMAIL:
It is SPRING and you are almost done with the 2018-2019 school year! I want to assist you in educating your seniors who have applied and been accepted to UVU to tell them about, “What’s Next” in their steps to college. If you are interested in having me come out to your school this month or next, please let me know! I have two options that you can choose from, depending on your situation:
What’s Next Presentation for Applied/Admitted Seniors
Some of your student have been accepted to UVU and may be wondering, “What’s Next”? I am available to come and share a presentation with these senior students to go over the next steps after being accepted.
A common way other schools have gotten these seniors together has been during their lunch break. If that is the case, I may be able to swing providing lunch for the seniors who attend – I would just need an estimated headcount!
Counselor Luncheon Q&A
I know that getting all the students together for a presentation can be difficult. If it is easier for me to meet with the counseling staff, I would love to come and answer some questions about “What’s Next” for seniors and answer other questions you might have. Lunch will be provided for the counseling staff.
Please let me know if this is something your school is interested in and we can schedule a time!
Step 2. Get a list of students (and their emails) from Recruit. You will want the list to include all seniors who have been admitted to UVU for the upcoming Fall semester. You can just focus on your “fire” schools (i.e. Mountain View, Orem, Timpanogos, American Fork, Pleasant Grove).
Step 3. Schedule lunch dates that work for your calendar/the school’s calendar. It's recommend scheduling your “What’s Next” presentations during the senior’s lunch hour, and bring them pizza & water or Jimmy Johns & Chips. Ask counselors for a space that will accommodate how many students you estimate coming. From the list of students you pull, there will probably be about ½ of the students show up (or a little less than half). You will want to make sure there is a projector and tables so that you can set up lunch and housing guides/swag materials.
Step 4. Get approval to purchase lunch.
Step 5. Verify that the counselor will market your event (email, announcements, texts, etc.). You can pull a list of the student’s emails so that you can send out invite/reminder emails to the students as well. It is helpful to have the counselors create a sign up sheet to help count how many students will be in attendance.
Step 6. Order your food the day before your event. Make sure it is tax exempt and get an itemized receipt.
Step 7. Get your materials ready. These are the items I took for my presentation:
“What’s Next” Presentation on computer (projector/screen just in case)
Housing Guides
Lanyards
Table cloth
Business Cards
Plates & Napkins
