Success at UVA is dependent upon understanding your new school, understanding what is expected, and learning how to use our platforms. Approach this onboarding course as a gateway to your success path.
You do not have to participate in early onboarding but students and Learning Coaches are expected to complete the onboarding course by the time the semester begins. Let your Learning Coach Support team know if you prefer to follow our standard, one-week onboarding process so they can assign you to a different onboarding group that begins closer to the start of the semester. Please do not jump around in this course. Progressing sequentially reduces the chances that you will get confused. Use the navigation links and buttons to progress through this course in order. Each page prepares you for the next one.
Most pages contain optional audio clips so you can listen rather than read lengthy passages. Always follow recommendations if the audio clips suggest that you read something on the page.
Scan each page to see its content before you begin reading or listening so you do not overlook anything, especially if you choose to use the audio clips. A few pages contain multiple videos and audios.
You do not need a username or password to proceed in this course. Nothing is password protected at this time.
If you do not have access to a computer, use a mobile device. Do not wait for the school laptop to arrive. Doing that will cause significant delays for the family and for acquiring school records for the student.
School laptops will arrive before the onboarding period ends. You will have plenty of time to complete the Canvas training phase.
If you need to update your mailing address for receipt of the laptop, please notify Student Services as quickly as possible at StudentServices@uview.academy or tell your Enrollment counselor. Doing that will ensure the laptop is delivered on time. (Deliveries cannot be made to mailboxes.)
Learning Coaches will receive guidance from the Learning Coach Support team for the family to pace itself throughout onboarding period. Following our pacing guidance will ensure students and Learning Coaches complete the onboarding cycle in the expected timeframe.
The Learning Coach Support team works with parents, guardians, and designated Learning Coaches; not directly with students. Please ensure you communicate onboarding information to the student.
