Gaby Benitez (she/her/ella)
is a second year Master's Student in Community and Regional Planning at UT Austin's School of Architecture. She has a background in biology and environmental education, and is an educator and artist born and raised in Austin, Texas.
Gaby's work is influenced by an understanding of the systemic racism and oppression embedded in Austin's geography and past and present histories of displacement, such as the rapid gentrification of her hometown today.
Gaby is a current ambassador for both Austin Water and the City of Austin's Sustainability Office. She is a graduate research assistant and project coordinator for the PrEP For All Project at the Dell Medical School's Pride Health Lab. Gaby is also a quad-chair for the Cities Connecting Children to Nature Network's Youth Leadership Working Group, housed under Austin's Parks and Recreation Department.
Gaby's climate work includes editing The Winter Storm Anthology, an anthology serving as a platform for stories of Austin's Winter Storm Uri, and as a fundraiser for local organizations working to address climate inequities. Alison Villasana (she/they)
is an Urban Planner at the City of Austin Displacement Prevention Office, a NSF Graduate Research Fellow, a Mellon Mays Scholar, and is completing their M.S. in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. She is from FortWorth, Texas.
