In order to meet the needs of disabled and elderly community members, who are particularly affected by climate impacts, I am proposing a program that would be based at the Smart Resilience Hub.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Program Recommendation:
Opt-in program for disabled, and elderly individuals, as well as caretakers in Georgian Acres
Texting + call service and platform to access delivery of resources distributed at the hub, for regular and emergency use
Users will also consent to sharing their information to be checked in on during emergency events
Program should be developed in collaboration with community members and ideally a partnering nonprofit organization so as to ensure efficacy and build trust
Putting the "Smart" in Smart Resilience Hub:
Integrating AI and Smart Technology:
Delivery and stocking robots for food and resource pantry
Interactive display that provides multi-lingual information regarding transit, climate alerts, and other resources
Solar-powered features, multifunctional charging station
Including EV scooters/bikes to increase connectivity
Wifi
Phone charging
Lighting
Electronic advertisements for revenue generation
Temperature and air pollution sensors at mini-hub, temperature and motion sensitive fan/mister and heater
Access specific: Repeated visual and auditory updates for bus schedule and arrival. Implementation into Google maps so that blind/low-vision passengers can easily find the shelter with assistive tech
Next steps for this project entail:
Creating a series of mockups and designs for the Smart Resilience Hub
Identifying appropriate community partners for community engagement
Developing a list of questions for community members
