In Spring 2023, this project has developed into the conceptualization of a decentralized grid of smart resilience hubs that connect into existing and future resilience infrastructure throughout Austin, Texas.
In conceptualizing this grid, we have worked toward two main project components:
1) Suitability Analysis: identifying neighborhoods/parts of the city that could benefit from a smart resilience hub site
GIS Layers used were sources from FEMA:
HAIL_EALS
ISTRM_EALS
LIGHT_EALS
and DRGHT_EALS
Blue means high amounts of natural disaster insurance claims are prominent in that Census tract and Purple refers to less dollars spent on property damage insurance
Dark Red=Most Suitable Census Tracts for Resilient Community Hubs
Dark Blue means high amounts of natural disaster insurance claims are prominent in that Census tract and Tan refers to less dollars spent on property damage insurance
2) Community Engagement Proposal: through an analysis of completed interviews with CoA staff, we have put together a plan for community engagement and design of a smart resilience hub site at the neighborhood scale.
