Youth Voices Rising is a camp for GEAR UP Students that uses storytelling, art, and writing to explore self and the world. The camp supports students in developing their creative skills while preparing for college and careers through workshops led by mentors, guest writers, and UT Austin faculty. Students engage in personal and academic writing, express themselves through art, and explore UT Austin's campus, including the leadership lab, Benson Library, and the Fine Arts Department.
UT GEAR UP students are nominated by their Coordinators on campus to apply for the Youth Voices Rising Writing Camp. Coordinators observe behavior, grades, and recommendations from their teachers in English and Writing related classes.
The student applicant and their guardian will be notified in person and through phone call/email if they are eligible for this opportunity.
