Led by faculty from the Texas A&M School of Architecture-Construction Science Department, the program covers construction industry basics, project management, leadership skills, college readiness, and professional development, offering GEAR UP students a hands-on experience to explore careers in construction management. Students visit live construction sites and engage with industry professionals to learn about career opportunities in construction science. There are separate experiences for students depending on their grade level. Students in middle school will remain local and the A&M Construction Science Academy will tailor the camp to what is in the students' backyard. As the student ages and moves up in grade level as well as maturity, there will be an opportunity to travel out of state!
UT GEAR UP students are eligible to apply for the A&M Construction Science Summer Camp. Coordinators will share the application with students and reach out to teachers to assist with recruitment of the camp. Each A&M Construction Science Summer Camp experience welcomes about 30 students per camp. Students are eligible to apply for this camp every single summer!
If a student applicant does not get accepted this summer, they can apply for next summer.

Through these academies, students learn more about the Department of Construction Science and its programs. Attending is a hands-on way to determine if construction science is the right major and career path.
There are various forms of camp that we offer through Texas A&M Construction Sciences:
Virtual: Meet with professors and students from Texas A&M University to learn about the world of construction science and the various career opportunities you can find. Some you wouldn't even believe!
Local: Attend a local college or university and explore construction opportunities close to home!
Out of State: Our GEAR UP students have had the opportunity to travel and explore construction sites throughout the United States. You could be next!
