Essential Questions
How can I use a simple color scheme and base composition to make a dynamic piece?
What elements of composition will serve me the best in creating dynamics?
DESCRIPTION: Working in acrylic or digital platform students will "paint" an object (representative of a "person") using a singular simple color scheme of monochromatic or complimentary. (This will later be coupled with another painting in another color scheme creating three total color schemes when combined) The first painting needs to demonstrate a strong composition and the object painted must fill the space. Once complete, students will apply masking tape to the finished painting covering over critical areas they want to keep. Gesso or paint over the entire surface to create a base. Students will then paint a second object (representative of a "person") or a portrait of the "person" the other object represents over the previous painting and tape using a different simple color scheme (compliment or monochromatic). The new color scheme must combine with the previous color scheme to create a third color scheme. Once the painting is complete the students will remove the tape to reveal the combined images.
You will provide a photo of your set-up of each object you paint in your "References" folder for this project.
Paint your object using your color scheme. Be as accurate as possible capturing light, shadow, texture, form, and proportions. The more detail the better. Make sure we can recognize the object(s).
Your final project, WIPs (sketches, stages, progress), References must be uploaded to your google shared drive for this project to receive credit.
