Newton High School Advisory Model

Since high school students are offered honors, advanced placement and (dual credit) college classes during their high school years, there is no need for further academic intervention from the high school gifted facilitator. The main focus of the facilitator is working with students on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with college preparation, guidance in selecting challenging classes including online and classes for college credit, and helping students design IEP goals to meet their academic needs. Student consultation with the facilitator and the facilitator's collaboration with general education teachers are determined on an individual basis.

5th-8th includes Santa Fe 5⁄6 Center and Chisholm Middle School

The gifted services for grades 5-8 is a combination of two methods: modifying curriculum and/or assessments within the general education classroom and pull out services. Within the Summit Learning platform in these schools, gifted students are given higher level rubrics to assess general education classroom assignments. They may also be given more in-depth assignments and/or curriculum extensions. Based on performance specifically in Math, some gifted students have the option of acceleration in Math classes. In 7th grade, students are offered the opportunity to participate in Duke Talent Identification Program. Pull Out Services include: teaching process skills like researching topics, Project Based Learning, and managing curriculum extensions.

K-4 Elementary includes South Breeze, Northridge, Slate Creek, Sunset, & Walton

The gifted facilitator meets with students for direct, pull out services to provide enriched learning opportunities based on the students’ identified needs. The pull-out setting provides opportunities for small group instruction among like-minded peers. The gifted facilitator will collaborate with general education teachers to extend the general education curriculum.
