The University of Rizal System (URS) demonstrates its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, "End poverty in all its forms everywhere," through various initiatives aimed at promoting education, community development, and social welfare. URS addresses the multidimensional aspects of poverty, focusing on improving access to quality education, enhancing economic opportunities, and fostering social inclusion. Through these initiatives, the university helps to address the problem of poverty by targeting its root cause and directly contributing to the socio-economic development of local communities. The university conducts anti-poverty programs through Inclusive Education as part of its key strategies. It provides accessible learning opportunities to students from marginalized and impoverished community sectors through scholarship grants, financial aid, and flexible learning options to reduce educational barriers besetting low socio-economic backgrounds.

Moreover, URS conducts instrumental community engagement and outreach programs that provide underserved communities with skills training, livelihood programs, and educational support systems. By offering local workshops or training in agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship, the university contributes to the economic empowerment of vulnerable members of society.

Finally, the university supports the eradication of poverty as part of its research and advocacy through involvement in studies that focus on identifying poverty-related challenges and developing solutions through its university research agenda, which is aptly called “HANDA.” This holds regarding its efforts to strengthen partnerships with local governments, NGOs, and other institutions in developing and conducting poverty-alleviation programs.  This ensures that the university’s contribution and responsibility as a partner academic and research expertise impactfully translate into real-world solutions for poverty-stricken areas.
