Urrbrae Agricultural High School
Sports Program
Purpose
The Urrbrae Agricultural High School Sports Program aims to promote social inclusion and wellbeing among all students, and to contribute meaningfully to school culture and pride. Involvement in sport broadens friendship groups and provides opportunities to develop life skills such as independence, communication, leadership, team-building, commitment, effort, and discipline.
Programs
There are three seasons of weekly sports per year organised by School Sport SA. The season typically consists of 9 - 11 games played after school on the allocated day, generally Monday to Thursday 3:30-5pm. Nominated teams have the opportunity to compete against other schools within the area, battling it out to win the grand final.
One-day programs are organised by School Sport SA and are hosted at both schools and public venues. These carnivals feature multiple games or events, where students compete against other schools. Throughout the day, students often see significant improvement in their skills and gameplay, while also creating lasting memories and building new friendships.
This state-wide competition gives students the chance to compete against schools outside of their usual zone. Teams participate in small rounds, with the winner advancing to the next stage in pursuit of the championship. Games are generally played during the school day and are organised as the tournament progresses, depending on which schools advance to the next stage.
Process
Students may nominate themselves by completing the linked Google form to the appropriate sport and/or program. In the spirit of providing every student with an equal opportunity, students who are proactive in registering their interest/nominating will be rewarded with a priority place on the team. Students must then return the relevant consent form and make the required payment to secure their position. If a team is already at capacity, a student will be placed on the waiting list until further notice.
Once the team is complete, a coach will be found and the team nominated to the southern zone competition or State competition.
There must be at least 3 other schools to nominate for that competition to be viable and proceed.
Please be aware that many factors can influence the viability of a program. Students may nominate but that does not guarantee the program will proceed.
Student Expectations
Communications is primarily performed between students and staff to promote independence, responsibility and proactive behaviours. Students are expected to check Daymap and emails regularly to keep up to date with team announcements, training schedules, game information, and more. Students are also expected to communicate with their coach if they will be unavailable for a game before 10 am on the game day. This will assist the coach and sports coordinator to organise fill-in players or forfeit the game if necessary.
All student's behaviour must be in line with the Urrbrae High School's values, Behaviour Policy, and Uniform Policy. If a student does not demonstrate the Urrbrae School values and appropriate sportsmanship during a sporting event, they may not be permitted to join a team in the future and parents may be contacted to collect the student early.
Students will be given a consent form via Daymap message or a hard copy, which must be returned by the due date stated on the cover letter to secure their position on the team. Payments must be made prior to or on submission of the consent form.
If the sport requires a uniform to be borrowed from school, students will receive a 'Commitment to Pay' form, which needs to be signed and returned to the sports coordinator (Kacie Brereton) or coach when collecting their uniform. Uniform collection days and times will be posted on Daymap to alert students, it is then their responsibility to organise a time to collect their uniform. Uniforms must be returned clean to the sports coordinator at the conclusion of the season and/ or carnival, if a uniform is not returned in a timely manner (no later than 1 week after the last game/ event) a fee will be charged to the student to cover replacement or damages.
